Dominion Road has become Auckland’s default Chinatown with a multitude of Chinese restaurants and businesses in the city fringe suburb (about a ten minute taxi ride from downtown Auckland CBD).

New Flavour Restaurant has undergone a revamp, with a spacious minimalist black and white interior décor, polished wooden flooring and contemporary dark wooden tables and chairs.

But hey – we’re here for the food – dumplings in particular. Famous for its traditional Lao Bian dumplings made fresh each day, New Flavour also has a huge menu including noodles, soup and many Chinese rice, meat and veg dishes.

Three of us opted to share a plate of twenty pork and fennel dumplings (10 fried and 10 steamed) plus stir-fried bok choy and fried chicken with lemon sauce. Service was swift, friendly and efficient. The food arrived quickly and was fresh and flavoursome.

Delicious dumplings at New Flavour Restaurant

The pork mince dumplings were a revelation, light and mouth-wateringly herbaceous with just the right amount of fennel. Fresh al dente bok choy and tender lemony crisp fried chicken completed the meal.

Great value at $43 all up for three. I’ll definitely be back!
